If you live, play, work, or drive on Mercer Island, or if you live or recreate near Enatai Beach Park or Mercer Slough, you will see our construction activities over the next few years.

Our relationship to water is what makes this region special. King County is a partner in this relationship. Regional wastewater treatment plays a key role in keeping our rivers, lakes, streams, and the Puget Sound clean for people and aquatic life.

We manage a big regional wastewater system that needs regular inspection, maintenance, and upgrades to keep sewage flowing. In Mercer Island and Bellevue, the existing system was installed in the 1970s. An upgrade to this part of the system is required to serve the needs of this growing community into the future.

If you live, play, work, or drive on Mercer Island, or if you live or recreate near Enatai Beach Park or Mercer Slough, you will see our construction activities over the next few years.

Construction coming 2022

The North Mercer and Enatai Sewer Upgrade Project includes a new sewer pipe that will run across Mercer Island, underneath Lake Washington and over to the Sweyolocken Pump Station near Mercer Slough. The project also includes upgrades to the North Mercer Pump Station and the City of Mercer Island’s Lift Station 11.

Avoid surprises by getting to know the work area.  Take a virtual tour through the construction zone to find out how the work will impact you and what we are doing to prepare for construction. The StoryMap will also guide you through the construction techniques we will use, how we work with communities during construction, the history of the project, and more. Additionally, we have a construction page that we will update regularly as construction gets underway.

We know this is a big project, and we are here to support our neighbors and communities every step of the way.  We are committed to being a good neighbor during construction. We will live up to that commitment by:

  • Providing advance notification of construction activities.
  • Resolving problems that do arise quickly.
  • Providing regular project website and construction updates.
