Free sustainable yard classes for the community

We don’t just treat wastewater! One of the things our utility does is education on water issues and solutions for students and community members. When we couldn’t do in-person teaching due to COVID-19, our utility’s education team adapted many of our programs to be online.

Recently, we partnered with the Snohomish Conservation District to offer an online series of free sustainable yard care classes all about creating a healthy, low-maintenance landscape to support wildlife and improve water quality.  One benefit of online programming is being able to expand our reach into a larger geographic area.  This year, our series went global, as we had several participants join from the UK!  There were approximately 70-110 people in attendance for each class, and the series was well-received and appreciated.  One participant commented, “Even for a rookie like me, I have been made much more aware of these topics and will eagerly continue to learn! Thank you all!”

These classes could not have been a success without the knowledge and expertise of our speakers:

Monica Van der Vieren – King County Wastewater Treatment Division

David Jackson – Snohomish Conservation District

Joe Crumbley – Snohomish Conservation District

Sara Rocero – Snohomish Conservation District

All of the classes were recorded and posted, so if you missed out and want in on the action, click here to view them.
