Did you know that industry is no longer the main source of local water pollution?
That’s because since 1969, we’ve required industrial facilities to pretreat their wastewater before sending it to one of our treatment plants. Each year, we honor industry’s commitment to pollution prevention.
In May we presented awards to 72 facilities that create family-wage jobs while protecting the natural resources that make our region such a great place to live, work and play
Three facilities received Commitment-to-Compliance Awards for meeting permit requirements every month for five consecutive years with no violations of any kind.
Forty-seven facilities earned Gold Awards for compliance with wastewater discharge regulations every month in 2014 with no violations, and 25 facilities earned Silver Awards for having no King County monitoring discharge violations in 2014.
“The industries and manufacturers we recognize with these awards understand that a healthy economy is tied to a healthy environment,” said King County Executive Dow Constantine. “Our quality of life is a major driver for growth and prosperity, so protecting water quality is good business.
